DPC Hub

There’s no doubt that the culture of Direct Primary Care is expanding, capturing the imagination of patients and primary care physicians and garnering the support of our professional organizations. Among the groups most engaged with the future of DPC are medical students and residents, who increasingly are demanding inclusion of education about DPC in their training.

I believe students’ and residents’ push for more instruction about DPC will be the motivating  force behind its growth within medical education.  Because DPC is not a subject about which many faculty physicians have much firsthand knowledge, it will be imperative for educational programs to collaborate with local DPC practices to offer experiential learning to their residents and students.  That’s where the  “DPC Hub” page comes in: to help link students and residents with DPC practices that offer the opportunity to perform rotations, or even just to visit and  chat about life as a DPC physician.

With time, this page will also provide a space for DPC practices to post practice opportunities to interested residents and physicians who seek to practice in the model without establishing their own practices.

If you are a DPC physician or practice representative who would like to ‘spread the word’ by hosting students and/or residents in your practice, please contact me here.  If you have a practice opportunity in a DPC practice that you’d like to announce, please contact me here.  In the meantime, our friends over at DPC Frontier have posted a very snazzy and updated DPC Practice Mapper that can help you to identify DPC practices in your area which whom you can start a conversation about opportunities for teaching.
